Ostend greatly expands number of cycling classes

Ostend wants to get as many Austrians as possible on their bikes. That is why it is greatly expanding its offer of cycling lessons. By 2023, not 20 but 180 people will be able to take cycling lessons. Registrations for those lessons are now open.

For several years, the City of Ostend's sports department has organised cycling classes for adults and non-native speakers. These are often people who have never learned to cycle or who have forgotten cycling over the years. In the lessons, they learn step by step the basic skills they need to be able to cycle independently (again). And that is completely tailored to each participant. A successful formula, as evidenced by the fact that the 20 available places are booked up in no time every year.

The city's sports department is therefore greatly expanding its offer this year, to 180 places. There are several series of classes. The first series will start from September. Interested parties can register for the classes now. And volunteers who want to help teach the cycling lessons can also sign up.

Everyone on a bike
With cycling classes, the City of Ostend wants to get even more people on the saddle. "Cycling, like swimming, is a basic skill that everyone should master. Moreover, cycling is not only sustainable but also promotes independence and is a solution to transport poverty," said Bart Plasschaert, alderman for Sport in Ostend.
