About De Fietsschool - Cycling School
De Fietsschool teaches people to cycle, trains cycling instructors and supports local cycling initiatives of cities, municipalities and organisations. Our dream? Getting as many people as possible to enjoy the many benefits that cycling brings!
Our dream
Cycling is great. It makes work, shopping and school accessible. It gives people the freedom to get around. And it does so in a sustainable way.
By giving and promoting cycling classes for adults, we hope to get everyone in our country on their bikes. Together, we dream of a society where everyone gets where they want to go.
How do we make that dream come true?
De Fietsschool teaches adults to cycle confidently and carefree. We work together with towns, municipalities and organisations to offer cycling lessons throughout Flanders. Affordable and accessible, always close to novice cyclists.
Our lessons not only focus on Cycling Skills, but also on traffic rules, bike ownership, bike maintenance and the fun of cycling together. This is how we ensure that participants grow into daily cyclists. This total approach makes De Fietsschool unique.
Who do we do it for?
De Fietsschool gives cycling lessons to adults who are not fluent cyclists today. These include people who never learned to ride a bike as children. Just think of people who move to Flanders from countries where cycling is not so obvious. But also people who over the years have forgotten how to cycle and feel a bit insecure in traffic.
Our cycling lessons are very low-threshold. Cycling experience is not necessary. Everyone is welcome, including people who do not yet speak Dutch well, who do not yet know the traffic rules, or who are not in good shape. Learning to cycle at De Fietsschool is learning to cycle in an open environment where everyone can be themselves.
With whom do we do that?
To make our dream come true, we are building a network of Veloten across Flanders. Our network includes:
