Cycling lessons? Here's how it works.

Dozens of cycling schools in Flanders organise cycling lessons for adults. You too can take part! Even if you have never sat on a bike before.

You learn cycling step by step

De Fietsschool's lessons teach you to cycle step by step. But what does a lesson series consist of:

  • Your lesson series starts with an introduction. You meet other people who are also taking cycling lessons. These are often people who live close to you.

  • In the first lessons, you learn cycling skills. Keeping balance, pedalling, braking, turning, stopping. Everything is covered.

  • Then you learn about the traffic rules in Flanders and the traffic signs you will encounter on the road.

  • You also learn how to cycle in the street. You learn to apply the traffic rules on the street and how to react in certain situations.

  • We give you tips and tricks for buying and maintaining your own bike. We also tell you how to cycle smoothly and safely together with your children.

  • At the end of the lesson series, we will see if you need any extra help to cycle on your own in the street.

Have you followed the whole series of lessons? Then you can hit the road as a confident cyclist, worry-free.

Various cycling schools in Flanders

De Fietsschool works together with Flemish towns and municipalities to organise cycling lessons in your neighbourhood. These lessons are given by instructors and volunteers. In our calendar you will find all the lessons. There you can check whether there are cycling lessons in your town or city.

How much does it cost?

De Fietsschool's cycling lessons are not expensive. Thanks to support from cities and municipalities, we keep the price as low as possible. Are you entitled to chance rates? Then you pay even less.

Is cycling something for me?

We give cycling lessons to adults who are not yet fluent cyclists. We do this step by step. And you too can learn to ride a bike. Even if it's completely new to you.
